An Introduction to the Solar Plexus Chakra

Our name, Chakra, is inspired by the ancient Chakra System which is composed of energetic centers that act as generators of spiritual power in the human body. These centers can be used to draw in and expend energy both within and around the human energetic field. Although the concept of the Chakra System has existed for centuries, it is as relevant today for aligning the mind-body connection as it was thousands of years ago (arguably even more so, since the dawn of technology and other chakra disturbances we did not face in 500 B.C.!).

In the month of April, we expand our chakric exploration by engaging the third energy center in the human energetic field: the Solar Plexus Chakra. Also known as Manipura, the Solar Plexus Chakra is located one hand-width above the navel in the upper abdomen just between the diaphragm and mid-back.

The Sanskrit name for the Solar Plexus Chakra is formed from a combination of the words “mani” meaning “jewel” and “pura” meaning “place” or “city”. This “lustrous gem” echoes the energetic resonance of this unique energy center as cultivator of  one’s own identity, personal power and gut instinct

Resonating with the Fire Element, the Solar Plexus governs ideals identity, self-worth, personal power and confidence. Known as the “manipulation energy center” the Solar Plexus wields our will/action response also known as our gut instinct. A center of boundaries and responsibility, the Solar Plexus Chakra instills courage and motivation in the human energetic system.

Manipura reflects the relationship of power exchanges and power dynamics shared between two energetic beings, allowing us to manipulate our reality by the use of our will and personal expression. It allows us to experience joy in the physical realms of life and body and instills a sense of direction and responsibility for our shared experience.

The Solar Plexus is the energetic emperor, the empress of action towards one’s dreams . Manipura is a key influencer of inflections in self-confidence, self-expression and the showcasing of one’s unique abilities & gifts. Engaging the Solar Plexus allows the practitioner to harness their energetic drives and exude resonance with motivation and accomplishment.
